Vienna is a very popular city, because of its long history and the important role that their emperors, the Hapsburgs, played in Europe over centuries. In the last 10 years city trips within europe became very popular as plane tickets got cheaper. The typical trip to Vienna is a weekend with a maximum of 3 nights.

After the removal of the city wall in the 2nd half of the 19th century the town grew rapidly in a centric way. The historical center is enclosed by the Ring Road where many of Viennas well known buildings such as the Parliament, the Opera house or the University were built. The 2nd circle is called “Guertel” (engl. Belt) and surrounds the inner districts 3 - 9. Nearly all objects of interest are within the 1st district or at the edges of the districts 3 to 9. For a short stay it is recommended to take a accomodation in / near the city center.

The must-see is of course St. Stevens Cathedral (Stephansdom). The gothic Cathedral is the sign of Vienna and from the top (you have to walk!) you have a wonderful view of the city. This plaza is still the center of the city and always crowded. Just a few minutes of walking away is the Hofburg, the former winter residence of the Hapsburgs. At the emperor´s apartments you can see the way of life as it used to be for the Hapsburgs. To get a quick overview you can take the tramways 1 or 2 that drive around the Ring Road. You can see the Stadtpark (Johann Strauss Memorial), the Opera house, the Hofburg, the Parliament, the Burgtheater, the town-hall and many other buildings that were all built around 1860 - 1880.

For tourists that love sightseeing, it is usually a short trip and so theses persons want to have an accomdation that reaches a certain standard. In the Inner city and around the Ring Road are several top hotels in the 4 or 5-star class. These hotels usually have quite a high price, so vienna apartments of private landlords are a good alternative.

Another must-see is the Summer Residence of the Hapsburgs that used to be outside of the city and is now located in the 14th district. You should take enough time for this area as you can visit different museums in the Castle, walk through the beautiful garden or take a look at the oldest zoo of europe.
